Photo of the Day

Imperial Palace, Kyoto

Looking into an interior courtyard, within the Imperial Palace in Kyoto. There was a light rain the day I went inside the Palace, so the sky is very white and made the doors stand out all the more. To visit, you need to register with the Imperial Household Agency, sign up for a specific time, and show I.D. If you are a foreigner, your passport, and sign up for a specific tour. The outer grounds, which have other small residences on them, is an open garden park with many walking trails. There was something so calming and peaceful about the palace grounds, especially with the regular sprinkles, singing birds, and summer blossoms, that the day remains one of my happiest in Japan. Frolic!
