Photo of the Day
Had to upload this one after a conversation with a friend night before last:
Lopez Island is a wonderful little big island in the San Juans in Puget Sound. It’s sunny and more agricultural than the other islands with farms and sheep and even a winery. AND I happen to have ancestors who were pioneers on the island- there’s still a road named for the family and their lake (the only freshwater lake on the island) still bears their name: Hummel. They were the first to irrigate their farm on the island and advocated long and hard to get the telephone lines brought out to the island. We visited on a road trip the summer before last and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The island is much warmer and temperate than Seattle, and everyone is friendly in the community- be sure to wave when you pass in your car! The island is also known for fantastic bicycling. We went cheap and put up a tent on a resort lawn… and happened to have a great view of the Sunset over Fisherman’s Bay.
