Photo of The Day

Torii Gate, Fuji-san

August 2007. F/4, 1/100, ISO 0, focal length 5.8 mm. This was taken very, very, very early in the morning on the way back down Mount Fuji. We did a night hike to see the sunrise from the summit. You can still see some of the glow from sunrise in the clouds. That sunrise was one of the most meaningful and spiritual experiences in my life. No image can truly catch that, but the gate has, to me, a certain gravitas in its simplicity that speaks of much more that it’s own existence; it represents much more, and the journey it takes to get there.
